Hi I’m having a problem with a 3d file I’m trying to cut I made toolpaths with 2 different programs artcam with a .rlf file and deskproto with an .stl both were provided for me.
Im cutting both in a spiral pattern when I get to the lettering the background raises up. The files do not have that as a feature.
I have attached some pictures.
My feed speeds are 0.9 x&y 0.4 z
Thanks
John

Can you see this in the actual toolpaths? I know it's a mess trying to preview in 3d with the toolpath turned on, but you can see if that's in the toolpath that way. I'd also check ramp speeds...

John,

Where i have the arrow, is that part of the design or waste? If it is part of the design and you want that surface to be the same level as the outside perimeter of your round design then i think you could put vectors around the "waste area" and give it a pocketing toolpath to lower the height to the proper level you want.

thanks Rob it does not show up in any of the simulations I looks perfect when I look at it with the toolpaths on. my ramping was set to 0.9. I'll try it again in the morning at 0.4 hopefully that will take care of it.
Jack the area you marked is waste
the only other thing I came up with as a workaround is to toolpath just those areas where the ridge is.
Thanks Again
John

It looks like you might have lost some steps in Z

that sounds very likely, now if I could only find them. they must be scared and lonely by now.:)

I'm sure they are. Ramp values set too high can cause loss of steps sometimes.

I was at the market yesterday...and there was this poor little "step" child crying, looking for its mother. Maybe yours?

Also...sometimes working it plastics, I have noticed a build up on the end of the bit...this can cause problems that normally don't happen. Its amazing how a little chunk of plastic in the wrong place can throw off your whole day.

Thanks Eric I agree about the plastic. this is being cut in wax so its not an issue
I read Brady's post and article about ramping. tweaked all the settings and it only helped a little. I tried cutting in a different direction. and got what looks like a drop shadow on the trailing cut. i cut the piece from 3 different directions and that fixed it for this job.not the best solution but it let me get the piece out the door.

i'm going to do some more experimenting and will post the results
thanks for all the help
John

Grab the router/spindle and wiggle it up, down & all around. Observe/note any sound or movement. Adjust as necessary - as it probably has some slop in it after all these years.

What do your pinions look like? Are they wet with grease? If they are not...they are shot. Order new ones & grease the racks. Clean the tops of the rails - any debris built up on the rails gets translated into vibration.
