I remember reading in a magazine about a shop bot. They used a 1X12? and cut out parts for a high back dining table chair. I wouldn't mind trying this.

anyone have the file or a clue as to what I am talking about? I cannot seem to find it any longer.

just a typical square dining chair. Since they were using a 1X12 the legs and such were cut in one piece and the slats and such were all cut from the same board. Not quite shaker style, but a square form dining room table chair out of maple.
