That does look interesting. Before you know it we will all be making our own doors like Chris did.

Bill P. sent me pictures of some oval gears about a month ago... It was the first I'd ever heard of such a thing. As soon as I found out about them I had to cut some for myself. I found the following links and used their cut files...
Oval Gears:

DXF + Project Description (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1354)
Square Gears:

DXF + Project Description (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:201)
These things sit on my desk and are fun to play with - they're also VERY hard to model/design. I almost got my old calculus textbooks out to see if I could do it. After reading some Hungarian graduate papers (translated to English, thankfully) I put the project back on the shelf.
Here's one more video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2vRkXoTWqc&NR=1) that I think is impressive.
Art's other software has always been a great value - I'm already thinking of fun ways to use this.

Guys:
Found this on that same website:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4458
There should be an index of "websites dedicated to making strange and sometimes useful things for those with the time to fool around that way"

if you follow the thingverse link.. you will find the thing-o-matic ... its home based stereo lithography at a price that most could live with....

Mitch, you had me excited there for a minute!
To avoid confusion for others reading this thread, the "thing-o-matic" is NOT offering stereo lithography, but 3D printing of any type is still pretty cool.
This is a machine designed and built by MakerBot, which came out of the RepRap project - an open source 3D printer project.
I hope someone has/will figure out "stereo lithography on a budget" - it might take these little machines to a whole new level in terms of the quality and usefulness of their finished product.

Mitch et.al.,
This thing is amazingly useful for me. It will simplify a lot of the gear design I do by a huge margin. Not to mention just cool.
first elliptical gear prototype already cut.
[sorry for the poor quality pocket cam pics, but this is just me messin about in the shop late at night]

I did, and made some neat toys for the grand kids! I don't remember any thing special about the download, but I'll go back and revisit it.
went back and tried it again ... all works well, the down load icon is way down... scroll ... scroll ... at the bottom of the page.
I'm with David, I can't download anything from the site or anything that widgetworks has posted above. Seems to be elusive........
