Has anyone put a laser crosshair on their ShopBot? If so, could you post some pictures and information about the cost, what you used, ect.

Thank you.

I'll second Steve's recommendation. I've got one of the battery powered units with the 1/4" shank. It works great. I didn't know about the new polarizing lens though, I'll have to get one of those ordered soon. :)

I cast another vote for Steve's recommendation. I thought this thing was a little pricey, but after using it a couple of times, I cursed myself for not getting it sooner. It is indispensable as far as I am concerned.

I have a laser center edge finder from the link steve and rick posted. It works great, BUT DONT GET THE BATTERY VERSION! The switch works by opening up the space where the battery is to break the contact turning off the laser. Problem is.. the battery can "flop" around and make connection again. About half the time I pick it up to discover it has run itself down again.

You have been warned. Otherwise its a great product.

Geez...
I did buy the battery powered version (before there was an option).
At least now I know why it seems to kill batteries so quickly.

The laser that Zeron shows is the same one I used. Here is the link to mine:

Mine had one problem. Mounting it to side of the router worked for quite a while, but the vibration eventually caused the laser to rotate in the holder. My plan is to change it so that the mounting bracket is attached to the aluminum extrusion - just above the router.

Using two independent line lasers allows the lasers to be mounted on the Y car while still meeting at the spindle centre. This lets the user zero the X and Y without removing the dust shoe or bit, or having to install anything in the spindle. It also makes it very easy to adjust and focus the lasers.

Total cost for two lasers, switch and battery holder to hold two AA batteries: $20.

Here is a link to the Electronic and Software modification I did to my Shopbot PRT

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WQ8KcTSKyQ

Go to 12:08 on the timeline of the video to see how I installed a laser on my machine for quick setups in locating the X/Y Datum. The laser is powered by a Radio Shack multiple voltage power supply and I have a switch on my control panel that will allow you to turn the laser on/off. I use this a lot and it is a real time saver for quick setups.

Had one of my friends write the macro with the correct offset numbers which can be easily modified. He also helped me with the modified 2010 Screen Set design and the MANY USER DEFINABLE BUTTONS I have on the right side of my Mach 3 2010 screen set.:)
