I am considering buying a preowned bot and have a question about converting a 4x4 table to a 4x8 on a PRS machine. When I called Shopbot they said the new table would cost me about 4 grand and take several days to swap out.

My question is has anybody done this? How involved is it? I would hate to take it all apart, reassemble and have something out of line or lose resolution. Are these concerns justified?

I look through the archives to see if the topic had been discussed previously but didn't find anything. Any input would be appreciated

Hi Terry,

I just finished replacing the X and Y rails on my PRT Alpha with new harden rails. What I found it's just like setting up the machine for the first time. Only you have to take it all apart first.

I would think you would get the new table with rails and would have to setup, the new 48 by 96 table up per instutions first and then get some helps and pick up and move the Y carriage over to the new table and then do all your aliments just like setting up a new ShopBot.

Basicly it would be like setting up a new PRS for the first time. I would down load the documentation from ShopBot web site and review the set up for a 48 by 96 system.

Also you may be able to recoup some of your money if you can sell your short rails on Joes or mechmate

Not sure what you are going to be doing with your machine and how often,

but once you catch on to a few things with your software, it is not too difficult to index your cut file & 4x8 sheet, move it, and cut a large item in two stages.

Sort of like a 9 hole golf course is 18 if you go around twice....:)

Hey want to say thanks for all the input. I an currently a woodworker and like to make beds. tables. coffee tables etc. Hoping to use the ShopBot to enhance my wood working with carvings inlays etc.

I am going to look up what I can find about an initial setup on the ShopBot tonight but right now it is beautiful here in Denver so time to get out into the garage and make some sawdust.

Thanks again for your input its greatly appreciated.
