Hello,

I am about to start another sign for the Historic Villages of my county and have previously used wood and epoxy along with some gold leaf and vinyl stickers. All this combined together for one sign.

The sign is V-carved and pocket carved into 1/2 sign board with a 1.5" laminated cap to protect the end grain. I then fillet all corners and use gold-leaf for the V carving and white acrylic paint mixed with epoxy for the pocketed letters.
My question is on a new material for the job to eliminate the laminating and hand carving in some areas.

Is there a material that will adhere to gold leaf sizing that is solid enough looking and easy to carve too? I would like to do the whole thing with one thick piece or with 1/2' surrounded or layered on the edges with more of the same material.

With all the curves etc, this sign can be a real pain.

Let me know what you think.
