View Full Version : Moving Again

I'm moving. Again!

For the past few months I've been cutting back easing into retirement. It's driving me crazy. The easy chair is killing my back and the hands are turning soft. So far this year the website has been a boon. Six years ago it didn't produce much interest. Perhaps people are shopping on-line more. Anyway, it has allowed me to pick and choose clients.

Everyone is welcome. If you're in the vacinity, please drop by. Beware, I may make you work.

This is my latest on-line advertisement.

what are you going to do with all the time you don't mow the lawn? I grew up in a place like that.

Joe,
It sounds to me like you have to think of retirement like quitting smoking, you have to cut back a little at a time because for you trying to stop "cold turkey" just doesn't work.

I think i could draw up some plans and send that you could cut out on your machine of a ROCKING CHAIR!

Erminio,

Wow, you have a nice website. It's much more finished than mine. Since I only make one product I rely on a simple portfolio page.

It's an excellent question as to how to be favored by search engines. It's a full time job trying to out-witt Google with SEO methods. I've relied on a couple of techniques. My website is old. It's probably outdated since I haven't made any changes in years, but If I doubled the number of photo's I doubt it would help. However I think age is a plus. Another method I think works is exposure. Google knows how many hits a website receives. So, I post on lots of different forum pages, leaving a trail wherever I go. I'm quiet sure this is effective. I'm not much into SEO labor. I like making signs better. With them I can tell if I've done a good job.

Perhaps you should find a few forums to visit and leave your name and website behind. I think it works.

Jerry,

I may have another workshop this fall, after I get all set up, with a limited number router heads. I'm thinking of four or five. It would need to be a three day event which would be at no cost, except for each individuals food and drink.

We'd only cover one major topic like fabrication.

We'll see how it goes.

Joe,

You're an inspiration for giving back. I've got to agree with you though that it would be a waste of your talent to hang in the towel, you have so much information that you can help with. I hope you find your groove, thanks for the posts. I would go to one of your seminars in a heart beat, I for one am not planning any retirement, I plan on going 'till I drop, it takes so long to get good in this business and I think as you get better with everything the creative juices just start flowing and I don't think you should stop that flow. I worked at a job ten years ago and I had to stop thinking, I was artistically frustrated and I stuck with it for two and a half year until I finally quit. The point I'm trying to make is that you have to release that creative desire.

I too would be very interested in coming up for a workshop. I am down in the Houston area and I am just starting out. I find I have been struggling on several key capabilities liking efficient finishing techniques. As a result I am hoping to learn as much as I can where I can.

Ken,

That's what I think also. A little water around the place and a couple of coats of fresh paint and it's good to go. She has good beams under the floor too.

As you know, I've been doing less polished signs out here on the prarie. There's a good market, in Indian Country, for the natural look. If I ever shake off my history of finished signs, I may find success.

I got to go now, I see a couple of Indians wandering around on the back pasture.
Never mind, it's my daughter. She's Chreokee.

Joe i would not know how to totally retire, maybe you can have a workshop on retirement when you perfect it, but i would be too busy working to come.

I hear people who retire are busier than ever.

This topic is important to me so please continue the retirement suggestions and experience.

Scott,

That's nothing like the "Rare Earth" postholes we manufacture. Who knows what that thing was made from. It could be a movie trick.

Don't you hate it, while digging a posthole you hit a gas line or tele wires? With our "Rootin Tootin Instant Postholes" there isn't any damage. You just move over to another spot. These only work on earth, from which they are made. No damage to metals or man made products. It will etch wood a little if undergound. No, you can't sanblast wood signs with them.

We just received new shipment of metior fragments. They were found in Pecos, Texas. Could be some of our best Postholes ever. I don't mess around down in Texas very much. They're all a little crazy.

Mike,

Did you receive my PM?

I'm not good with receiving and responding to personal messages left behind on forums. I would much prefer a direct Email. That way I can more easily keep track.

If any one wants to contact me, please use the Email address (jcrumley1@cox.net)
