Guys...
Some interesting numbers came up in this same poll for SB Link users. We are looking to get a picture of how the user base upgrades their SB3. Please select ONE

Thank You for participating

I tend to “not fix it if it’s not broke” I need a compelling reason or feature to make a change. When I do… I go with the latest beta.

I usually keep up with the latest version but hadn't checked in a while. I'm using 3.6.32. I have voted and am going to get the newest version.

Thanks for bringing my attention to it Gary.

Same here, unless there is a reason I don't mess with the operating system. That said, I just "upgraded" from 3.6.5 to 3.6.36 so that I would have the most current version on all my computers for my training classes.

So if I had voted last week, it would have been 3.6.5.

Hi,
I am still on 3.5.3.
I tried upgrading to the latest the other day on my design computer and it wouldn't run my interactive surfacing file. No doubt with a lot of tweaking to my many files I could make it work, but I went back. 5.3 does everything I want it to.

I've always been nervous doing upgrades of the SB3 control software. I guess to many problems after upgrades in the past have kind of made me jumpy.

Like other people, when there is a compelling reason to upgrade I will look at it. I don't have time to beta test new releases right now. I need my machine for production work at this time.

3 years with 3.5.14, and not one problem.

2 weeks with 3.6.36 so far, smoother runing, could it be?

I installed a new hard drive on my computer and decided to install the latest version of SB. I had been using SB 3.5.18. I often use the keyboard commands to raise and lower the Z axis for bit changing. When using the page up or page down key with SB 3.5.18 the Z stops as soon as I release the key. With the new version the Z coasts to a stop. I don't like the coast, I want to have accurate control of where the Z stops.
Also, I typed JY 24 to move the spindle and decided to stop the movement by hitting the Spacebar. The movement stopped but I could still hear the Y motor. The software was locked up. I hit ESC to close but it wouldn't close. I used the Windows Task Manager to shut down the SB software.
These problems led to my uninstalling SB 3.6.36 and reinstalling SB 3.5.18 which has worked perfectly since I first installed it

I view it every time that it shows as been added to.

Ditto, I guess that means 10 of those views are mine?

Well I would have to say that I have viewed several times too see what others were using. I wish I had a choice but at this time I'm just on the sidelines with no access to a machine at this time:(

Guys...
IT wasnt the number of views I was really commenting on.

At present only 42 people know what software version they are running or have taken the time to check the box. Seems with 5000+ machines and 539 active forum members, more than a small percentage of them would check a box as to which version they are running.

I did it, but some people just don't like surveys.

I'm using version 3.6.32 right now. What's the difference between what I'm using and version 3.6.36?
Does it make any sense for me to update?

I'm using 3.6.34 I upgrade every 5 or 6 versions. It seems to work for me.

OK you guys are making me think ! Not nice it hurts :)

I just got a 2001 PRT 48x96 . I have been reading the forum . I read some people are saying they run better with newer PC ( mine is older 1.4 gig with 512 memory and ShopBot version 3.4.27 ) ) I have a much newer PC that I can put in its place with 2.4 P4 and 2 gig memory. Should I upgrade it and the software ?

thanks for looking and the advice

Kent,
If you have the original PRT control board, you'll need to stay with the version you are on (3.4.27). If you have upgraded to a 4G control board, then I'd say you should upgrade.

If you are still on the original control board, you should consider an upgrade to a 4G or the equivalent they are selling now if you can swing it - it'll make it seem like you have a new machine. I was very impressed when I upgraded the PRT I had at the time.

Thanks Ken,

It has the original board at this time. That is also on my mind whether to go with 4g or other... I am used to Mach3 . But don't mind learning ShopBot ...
Will learn with what I have and hopefully upgrade to something soon afterwards.

Just trying to figure out which way , Bang for buck so to speak :)

thanks again. Do you think PC will make any difference ?

Memory in your pc may be a little low, but if you're not having problems then I wouldn't worry about it. If you're doing a lot of 3d or get into ecabs or something then probably need 4 gig. Is your speedtest communication speed ok?

Thanks Ken,

The computer uses Rambus memory so little more expensive to upgrade. I think I will just replace the whole PC. It is only running the ShopBot so works fine for now :)

thanks again Kent

Currently using 3.6.28 on "custom" PRS Standard. Any reason to upgrade yet?
