Might cut something tomorrow. I have gotten as far as exporting parts and opening them in Aspire. Just need to get the material thickness right.
Plan to use the PDF output. Aspire didn't like the DXF file.
Of course this software is in its very early stages (alpha) so don't let the bugs scare you off.
So far the alpha version of the software is only available for download by collaborators, and they have requested that it not be released. I am assuming the public beta will be the next stage.

Well Jack-you have the software and now the work begins! Since you are one of the first in you are the one who has to really learn it and tell the rest how to do it.
Build it, Jack, and they will come! ;)

here is the parts layout. Again i haven't read much, since there isn't much to read but this gives you the placement of the "ribs".
I'm not sure what the best cutting strategy will be since since i don't see how you can cut the "slits" to a specific width, other then specifying a specific bit width when cutting. The issue i see is that the parts are exported a connected vector dxfs and in order to cut the slits you are going to have to edit them away from the outer perimeter of the part.
Again, I haven't read all the documentation.

Michael,
Do you see where you change the units of measurements from mm to inches?

Jack,
I don't see any option but mm either. Do you have your material set for 18mm and scale to 1:1?

For those of you that will be at the Maker Faire this weekend in San Mateo, we'll have two SketchChair chairs there...one in the ShopBot booth and one in Ponoko's...and I'll have the beta software running on a netbook if you want to play with it.

Didn't think this one would nest into a 4x8 sheet but it did.

have you cut it yet? if so lets see
I guess for now we have to do a manual conversion from mm to inches to begin with? i have a conversion app.

I'm not really sure what the problem in cutting something in inches or mm's is. If my file is in mm and it is set for 25.4 of them how is that different than if my file is in inches and I cut 1 of them?

I guess the only confusion for me was figuring out what .75" equals in mm's. then doing the same for your cutter. I have a conversion app, i just had not used it yet. Been busy with other stuff to fool with the sketchchair app anymore today.

the chair dosent look right i have studied the videos carefully it looks like the back of your chair will be ribbed but the actual seat will not be supported.
sadly i am a broke college student and did not have the money to send until 1 day after the project was funded.:(

My plywood was about 18.5mm thick. A pair of digital calipers comes in handy here.
I used a ratio of 1 : .65 to get the dimensions I wanted.
Start by going into expert mode and tweak the size of the brush to what you want. Then go to basic and draw. It will only add slats automatically to the first line you draw. I think you can add them manually but I am not sure how. Add your legs in basic too. Then go back to expert and play with things.
You may need to play with the vectors a bit once you get them into partworks. I need to beef of the legs a bit on mine before I cut it.

I seem to have problems outputing patterns to pdf. Any hints there? Dxf supposed to be improved in todays release, but it still doesn't load either. Really haven't had time to play with it much.
