I want to make a carbon fiber instrument panel to go in a kit car. Has anyone tried this? The stuff is kind of expensive and so I want to make sure that I know what is going to happen before I cut the final panel.

There are some companies that make fiberglass that looks like carbon fiber. it is much cheaper and easier to cut than the real thing. carbon fiber is murder on tools.

Here is another option. It's a plastic used to make knife sheaths. Easily cut and also themoformed.

Wow! it cost 90 bucks for two square feet of the Carbon Fiber stuff. Ah well, it is on the way so I guess that is what I am going to do.
