So I just got my email from ShopBot notifying me that my control box may have out of spec capacitors on it. There are instructions on how to inspect the board and how to notify ShopBot if I have the bad caps - but no word on if I should stop use or if it's ok to use while I wait for a replacement board. Anyone else heard anything?

Did the email say not to use the machine? You might want to email tech support for confirmation.

The memo just says:
If you have found a 50V 22000 μF
capacitor please call ShopBot Tools,
Inc. (919)680-4800 so that we can have
a replacement sent out.
If you have an 80V 10000 μF this is the
correct capacitor and you may close and
repower your box. Thank you for your time.
I'm out of the shop until Monday - I think I'll have them leave the Bot down until Monday when I can get in and check it out just to be safe.

My New Shopbot was all ready to go. I had just finished my T Slot Table Top, when Bam, my control box started spewing out heavy white smoke. I was right in the middle of the table leveling program. I shut the machine down and called tech support. I was told I was one of many that had been calling with this problem. Still waiting for my new board to arrive. I don't know if it's safe to use your machine with the capacitor. I shut mine down right away when I noticed the smoke. The Capacitor blew out the end and leaked oil. I have been shut down ever since.

So I ended up calling my partner and the Bot does indeed have the wrong capacitors installed:( I sent an email to support to request the replacement board - I'm sure it will be corrected quickly. Until then the Bot will stay down.
I'm glad I did not have a "meltdown" experience as I did the rewiring of the shop myself for the Bot and the new Dust Right system. I'm not a "pro" electrician - just good enough to keep from killing myself - and I'd have been thinking it was my wiring lol!

I got that email yesterday. I have the "bad" caps. I was told that it is OK to continue using the machine. Was told the worst thing that can happen is the caps will smoke. Then quit using it. I feel comfortable with that answer. If they told me that then they will stand behind that answer.

Are we talking about a particular model Shopbot, new ones, old ones? I haven't received an email from Shopbot. I'd like to know if I have reason for concern.

This recall only applies to standard ShopBots (Not an Alpha) shipped with-in the last month. If you have any concerns please get us a call or send an email to support@shopbottools.com.
