Prior to texturing, a foundation coat keeps the texture in place. This photo shows this coat being laid down. It goes down on both the background and letters at the same time. Once again the letters have plenty of room around their sides and some of the base soaks will droop around the sides. That's good because the end effect doesn't look so mechanical. CNC work often looks too stiff. In this case PB "Crack Filler" is being used but Durhams Rock Hard Putty is just as good.

It's difficult to apply a good thick texture without base because the texture slides all over the place. Ron cut the letters from 1/2" PVC and the background is .75" Trupan. I'm sure you can imagine how slick it is.

Joe:
We need a new SB topic called "Dr Crumley's how to's" so all of this great info you are passing along won't get lost in the forum as time goes by.

Perhaps the little extra space around the letters becomes a design technique of it's on. I consider it a punctuation giving the letters more dignity. The finish is Sculpt Nouvea used with and without their patina. The lettering received Iron as a finished paint. The background was the same but misted with their light green patina.

Thanks to Andy Brooks for the complement of setting aside some of my previous instructions on his forum. Another forum which has a Tips & Tricks heading is “Creative Signmakers of America. Vetric has also indicated an interest in setting aside a section for techniques. You fellows are correct about newbees missing out on older posts. A week or two after they've been posted they get lost in the archives, never to surface again.
