I want to make a couple simple desk nameplates for the girls down at one of our local self storage places, they call me when people leave stuff in units and i just got 3 sheets of 1" foam insulation for a project along with some tools for free.

Anyway I just want to carve their names into white corian and slip it into a base of purpleheart. How is the best way to accent the carved letters, with a shot of black paint then wipe overspray with a rag?

Squeege it, wrap a rag around a bit of wood and squeege. If the paint dries too fast for that, sand it off. I go to 320 or 400 grit and it polishes right up.

Not sure if you saw this picture or not but it was my first and only experience with corian. It was fairly easy. I used tabs like normal and they cut off with a jig saw. I did not worry about wiping the excess paint i just sanded it off later. I did use two coats and let it dry for 48 hrs. 400 grit is fine and not sure if it will stick but i sprayed a light coat of poly from an aerosol can, mostly to shine up the letters.

Thats a nice example Rick, it shows me what i needed to know. I just need to use a high grit sandpaper.
I guess i need to change out the 20 grit huh?

No jack you just need to stack 20 sheets together that way you have 400 grit worth.

There was a little trial and error here and i got my feed rates and other settings from a member on here and they worked great. i used about a medium sand paper until there was just a small amount of paint left where it should not be, then i went to 400.

anyhow post a picture of what ever you do cause i need some ideas

20 grit will work, you just use the other side of the sheet! :) Russ
