Well all the parts are in and hooked up. I just finished hooking up my new 2.2kw watercooled spindle. I think I am really going to like this. It so much more quite, and no router wind blowing everything around.

pics to follow shortly.....

Chinese 2.2kw spindle and matching VFD
5 gal home depot full of water, 150 gpm pond pump with closed loop system.

Sorry units.... gph not gpm, but with head loss I am down to 1/4gpm.
But even at this low rate it seems to be enough.

I worked at a 9 hole golf course and we could only pump about 100 gpm....

At 150 gpm, you would need about a 3" water line going to the router...

ya but think of the bearing life. but if it sprang a leak it would flood the shop fast.

Very high tech!!
You'll need to give a report on the spindle as you use it for a while. I've been interested in first hand reports as I've been thinking of adding one to use for drilling and dados/rabbets.

I am having a little problem, i all of a sudden seem to be getting com errors.
I think I have run it down to electrical interference of the pump of all things.
the wires to power the pump were running close to my usb cable. I have moved the pump power wire and things seem to clear up a few more speed tests to make sure this clears things up.

Well put over 6 hours on her today, running good,
Cut mostly foam, at the end I did a trim cut to cut off a piece of ply,
full depth, 21k 1/4" bit 3ips NO PROBLEM, was pulling 1.3 amps. I likey my spindle... :D

Only problem is i can't hear my spindle over the shop vac, so I scared myself thinking i started a file with out it running....

Jerry
I have used a few of these spindles,
you are only drawing 1.3 amps??
seems strange
all the ones I have tried draw far more than that. even when not cutting
230v*1.3a=299w 299watts/746watts= .4 hp

have you watched the draw when doing a deeper [ie heavier cut?]

thanks
Carl

Yep, sitting there running idle at 22k =.3 amps 16k .2 amps today was the first time I saw it get over 1 amp. I'll toss some bigger 1/2" bits at it latter in the week.

PS. I was using a brand new onsrud super o single flute

Curious to see how that spindle is doing. Another question, what can it use for coolant. Some of us don't heat the shop constantly through the winter so freezing might be an issue.

Thanks

I checked into one and they told me that rv antifreeze like you use in sinks will work

Just wondering if there are any updates on this?
How's the spindle holding up? Issues in general?

Sent a PM to you as well. Thanks.
