hey guys, so after a month with the new (old) machine i have a couple questions for the vets out there.
first off, i am trying to closely monitor the spindle temp, we are running a 5hp colombo off of single phase (got a 10hp yaskawa vfd and wired it myself, 99% sure i did it correct). when profile cutting i have not had any problems with too much heat, but the cuts only take max of 10min. i have however done some 3d surfacing of signs (at 2-3hours per file), the temp of the spindle has reached up to 150f before i shut it down to cool. i am using an infared thermometer to measure temps (so it does not work to measure the shiny alum. part, just the lower area that is brown in color). i purchased a new fan and wired it in expecting that to solve my problem. no such luck. i expected the fan to spin a little faster than it currently is, my fans in the VFD (tiny little guys) move a ton of air around, i feel like the large fan on the spindle is hardly moving any air.
i am trying to trace the problem at this point, could it be the wiring for the fan??? (how fast do they spin?) is the the age of the spindle? could my wiring of the VFD be the culprit?

what would possible solutions be? aftermarket fans with some real power? spindle rebuild (and what might be the cost of this)? new spindle? i feel like i have done as much research as possible on this and would appreciate advice from someone who has gone through a similar problem.

also i have determined that i need new pinon gears (def on the x axis). should i go ahead and purchase new gears for all motors? is it best to buy these from shopbot or is there another option?

thanks for all the help, looking forward to really getting some hours logged on the bot this month.
