Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but does anyone know a plug-in for Alibre or other 3d CAD program that works like SliceModeler for Sketchup. I'm trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel, if I don't have to. Basically SliceModeler takes a 3d solid and slices it at given distances on the x & y planes, then adds notches for assembly. It also allows you to enter the material thickness. Here's a sample of what I'm talking about - this was generated from a spherical section...

Thanks!

i haven't tried it since i bought it much but sketchchair pretty much does that. i don't know if you can make any other shape other then a chair but you might want to go take a look

Thanks Jack,

I have SketchChair, also - great idea. However, what I'm looking for is the ability to take virtually any solid object and slice it this way, with the slots automatically added. If I had the time, I'd simply write the code using the Alibre API. I was just hoping there was something like it already out there!

I'm what some have called an "advanced SketchUp modeler" whatever that means. What isn't working in sketchup that you're looking for something different?

Randy?

There are dozens of different ones that people have made for Rhino, specifically using Grasshopper (free visual scripting add-on for Rhino). I've made a few that are now a bit out of date, but others may have updated versions they'd share. Alot of Rhino people call this waffling or waffle definition. But sorry, can't point you to specific ones right now.. you can get really deep into Grasshopper/Rhino really fast.

For what it's worth, I wrote one that would slide any solid shape and the spacing was all adjustable.. I used it to make elliptical domed DVD shelves. Definition doesn't work anymore as far as I know, due to Grasshopper updates.

Aspire will slice but not automatically add the slots as Ron has requested.

saeed,

I believe that the Sketchchair software is currently only available to people that supported them in their Kickstarter campaign.

Thanks for all the replies! As far as I know SketchChair has not been released to the public, yet. They have reached their funding goal, so hopefully it will be released soon.

Eric - thanks for pointing me to "waffling," I had never heard that term for it, and it yielded good research results!

Randy - thanks for the offer, but at this point, I don't really have the time to learn SketchUp in depth.
