I starting to get a good collection of bits, and trying to figure out the best way of storing them. Right now I'm using plastic bin boxes but that is getting cumbersome. I also need to figure out a inventory system so I don't get caught out missing a bit I need but that is for later

I use a 2x4 with holes drilled in it. 1/4", 3/8" and 1/5" holes in groups to hold the bits.

Keeps the bits from banging around and I can see what I have and what I need to get sharpened.

Extra bits are stored in the little plastic tubes that the manufacturer shipped the bit to me in.

Great system and it's free.

i use an 18 inch long metal rack which is screwed to the studs in my work area. its pre cut for the shaft of the bit. it came from rocklers and its good quality.

I am using drilled out MDF right now but I think I am going to switch to foam in an air tight container with a desiccant

I have seen some great ideas in ShopNotes magazines. One uses pegboard with spacer blocks. Another uses the square holed flouresent light covers.

Personally I have the one that came with the router bits and since I went with the RT1000 for my manual router table it has drawers with built in storage: http://rt1000.com/.
