a year and a half ago i thought the same question. its nothing more then a movable table. on the buddy the table, not the router, moves in the x direction. the buddy 32 comes with a 24 inch cutting area movable table and a 48 inch is just twice the size and is called a power stick. i think bigger then that you need supports. i tried to keep that simple and hopefully it made sense.

now if you don't know what x direction is that is a simple answer also.

Jack, Thanks for the info. All the pictures I saw were lacking in detail and I could not see what was going on there. I thought that it was a way to extend travel with a pin lock or something, much like I would have to do on my 8' table if I needed to cut something 16' long. The video in your link cleared things up perfectly, what a great option to have.

Rick, I have been around machinery for a long time, what we now call X used to be called the longitudinal axis, that is the long one. X is almost always the long axis, but on B&S coordinate measuring machines, the Y is the long axis, go figure.

If I had a Buddy, I would want one.
