I have been needing to update my dc brush setup. mainly I used rare earth discs to hold them on and they were not strong enough. I wanted to integrate the magnets as the pins that keep it from sliding. Ao I buy 1/2" diameter magnets 1" long for the part that is attached to the spindle and 1/2" for the brush. Way too strong and a real pain to pull apart and easy to really pinch my fingers. so I replaced the 1" long ones with threaded rod. this seems about right in holding power and the threads are easier to keep them in place then glue on the magnets. Though I got the holes dialed in so they drive in but I cut the first batch before I got the magnets.
This setup was designed for a center mounted HSD spindle on a prt alpha. it gets around the spring in back and the small space in front. you can only get a 3" hose in the space.
I battled the brushes to find what worked best. the poly brushes would mash and stay bent if you did not have the exact right length for the job. Plus they tended to be too stiff or not stiff enough. so I finally settled on horsehair brushes. They do spread out but they will bounce back if you leave them for a bit.
I ended up with three different length brushes as sometimes the long one would get chewed up with a small bit or it would bottom out the z. plus vaccing off the table needed the right length brush. I haves a 3" one for 1" plus deep cuts a 2" thats pictured for most of the cutting and a 1" for small bits.
we have a local brush manufacturer and they told me the horsehair are about the best brushes out there.
