This started out as a 2x2 and within 15 minutes it was a fluted vase column. All done with a 1" ballnose. The shape was made with a 2 rail sweep. The flutes were done with a conventional fluting toolpath projected onto a 3D surface.

Randall it's kind of funny how you find this nice design hiding inside a square piece of wood.

Is that correct a 1" ballnose?
Tell me how you made the "teardrop" flutes? I assume you gave the 3d surface a upwards taper and had the toolpath follow that, which created the teardrop design?

Did you have any issues with thin stock support?
very cool randall

jack if you look in the "fluting" tool paths you will see that the entrance and exit of the flute has some options.

Jim is correct about the fluting toolpath. Projecting 2D toolpaths on a 3D surface is very powerful, faster, and frequently gives better cut results than if the flutes were embedded in the 3D image.
