My wife bought me custom ear molds for my headphones so I don't have to wear ear muffs.
I have battled noise in my shop I have used pelter noise blocking earmuffs with line in (they lasted a few months. ear buds under the ear muffs (cord would catch on everything) to a bluetooth headphone adaptor that let me use any earbuds. that works well but my noise blocking ear buds don’t stay in well and the foam inserts don’t last very long that do stay in.
So the earphones I bought has a service for 100.00 to get custom ear molds made for them. you print the coupon out make an appointment at one of the local places they list and get them done. I went today and it was not bad. She had to clean the wax and I swear she went in 2’ and pulled a basket ball sized ball out of each ear. They she put a miniature tampon in each ear pushing it in at least 1’ then mixed up what looked like flexible bondo and squirted it into each ear. it was more like putty white wit ha blue hardener but she mixed it in her hand but pushed it through a big syringe. when she was mixing it it did not seem thin enough to push through. it was strange having both ears plugged so much.
but after a few minutes she popped them out like a forge out of a wine bottle and shipped them off. I guess the company will call me and i will pay and get them in two to three weeks. I will report back with the results.
I sure had clean ears afterwards though.
here are the ear buds I bought I spent about 100 on sale for the hf-3’s

Sounds pretty cool Steve. You'll have to tell us how it works when you get them.
I can tell you from my experience that our business of playing with wood does lead to some humongous wax build-up. I've had my ears impacted so bad a few times that my hearing went and when the sawdust/wax ball was removed I lost all equilibrium for several seconds.

Dave,
That is so weird that you mention that about wax buildup re:woodworking. I had never realized that, however have had horrible equilibrium problems all my life.

I get a buildup of wax and sometimes it is such that i get dizzy and room spins which is funny because i've NEVER drank but have had many a hangover, sounds like!

You know if you hold your nose, close your mouth (air in cheecks) and BLOW, the only place the air can come out is thru your ears and you can POP them that way.

I think you just want to see me make goofy faces:rolleyes:

years ago the doctor would have this thing that looked like a turkey baster and would stick in one nostril and while i swallowed a drink of water he shot a puff of air in one nostril while i closed the other nostril and would pop each ear that way.

I forgot to post about these puppies. it took a bit to get used to them they did not seem to go in deep enough to block really loud sounds. but after a few days that stopped being the case. or I learned to insert them better. They don't collect wax as bad as any other earbud I have used. I can hear whats going on just fine. but I do miss people talking when I am outside my shop. If I had the earbuds plugged into my phone without bluetooth a app would amplify them so I could hear.

Steve,
what i'd like to know about the process is when they were measuring and stuffing your ear full of that putty how did they work around all the hair that grows out of us old guys ears?
Man if i could transplant the hair coming out of my ears to the top of my head i wouldn't be bald anymore:D
Better yet i think i'll let it grow for a few more years and do a "combover"

The last time I had my ears cleaned out, they found a roach. Not the insect kind,...the other kind.;)
