spindle speed controller

I have an older PRS standard with a 4G controller and an HSD 2.2 spindle that does not have the speed control. Is there a way that I could get a breakout board that would let me to start the spindle and control the speed from the computer. I see Shopbot sells a speed control board but it will not start the spindle.

I've got a 2007 PRS Standard with a Yaskawa spindle and later bought the speed control to go with it. It does not have an option for start/stop and I'm unaware of ShopBot (or anyone) making one. I wonder if there's a way using the output switches.

Also, a warning: this may not apply to your HSD spindle, but my speed control regularly freezes up USB and stops responding. And nothing offered by SB support or here on the forum has been able to solve the problem for me. Others have gotten it to work, but for me, it's been an unfortunate waste of money.
