I don’t do much 3d and I get paid for even less. I got hired to make this colonel eagle logo in 3d for a local want wood store. it will go on a desk for a retiring colonel. The logo I got was was too poor quality. but a little more googling (thats what they used) I found a much better quality one. but it does not really have much detail for 3d. so I traced it raised the black and lowered the rest and ended up with the result it is about 9x17 I cut it with a 1/* ball nose at 6ips and it took about 1.5 hours or so.
Then for the same wood place I had them send me their logo so I could make a sample for their store. I imported the picture in 3d then used trace and raised the letters. Since it is still screwed to the table I am debating on running the bit around everything to clean it up.
The vcarved one I wanted the tree different maybe raised but I did not want to change it that much and I debated on the texture but decided to leave it. I carved the large parts with a 120 v the small with a 90 and the texture with a 60

Steve:

Nice Eagle! I'm curious why you decided to route with a ball nose rather than a V-bit?

they wanted a more carved look. vcarved would have been perfect but they wanted 3d. Plus I made more money on 3d.

A very good reason!

Nice job Steve. Would you believe I just carved a hunk of Goby Walnut that I've had laying in the rack for years? Like you I don't do much 3-d but this is a Birthday present for the other half. I thought that Goby shut down a while ago due to owner retirement.

Steve,

I need to learn to do this very type of thing with my SB. What would you recommend as far as reading or learning materials? I am really eager to figure that process out... ( taking a 2 d drawing, sketch, logo and preparing a good 3D cut file for it)

TIA,

Monty

That looks great. I love the detail on that 3D tree. I think it is the same tree I have ion my branding iron. I am interested also in your entire process. Did you download a DXF or some other type of file? How did you trace it or what did you trace it with? Did you run it with PW 3D? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Bob

this was done in aspire. it Just imported the bitmap into the 3d plane that gave me the texture then I outlines the letters and rim and raised them up. this was all learned in the videos' that come with aspire. I still have a lot to learn though. I cleaned the letters up with a 1/16" bit

Great work, Steve! Aspire is a WONDERFUL program for things like this and so much more. You've got a great handle on it, for sure!

Very nice Steve. Did you use the 1/16 ball nose for the textured background too?

no only a 1/8" I just did a profile cut around the letters with a 1/16" bit.
