OK I've been running a Shopbot for 15 or so years and I love the machine. Yesterday I accidentaly left one of the spring clamps I use to hold down material on one of the rails and fired it up. I came back in the shop after a few minutes and that nice odor of burn electronics was in the air and the machine only jitters. There is a nick in one of the control wires so I'm assuming that the control box got fried from the sliced wire. The control box is ancient and I really don't want to spend the 3 grand to upgrade right now and I have work to finish. Does anyone have an older control box that they have upgraded from they would be willing to part with? I'm going to call Shopbot to talk with them on monday but I'm guessing already they won't be able to help. Help!!!

If you are running a PRT, you can first repair the broken wire. Then, use the Accessory (5th driver) and assign it from channel 4 to whatever the burned out channel is in software. If it was one of the X motors, it would get re-assigned to channel 1, Y ch2, Z ch3. Just unplug the cable from the box where the bad driver is, and plug it into the Acc one...this of course is after you turn off the control box, unless you want to burn out the accessory driver as well.
I would try turning off the control box and repairing the wire. Then try moving the tool around to see if it comes back before switching over to the Acc driver. If the torque is low or it becomes unreliable, swap it.
