How can I program Aspire to make a volute/rising sprial?
I have now watched all of the Aspire training videos, and am looking forward to designing my first useful project for my Shopbot (PRT Alpha 5 x 12). But I didn't see anything demonstrated that hinted at the geometry I need to create, a volute. A volute is essentially a rising spiral. I have attached three images from musical instruments to make the need clear.
The project I want to make with my Shopbot, is a window top, for a 1904 house in my neighborhood. This outside window top was removed in 1970 when plastic siding was put on the house. Typically, when people replace these, they don't make the volute, as I guess it is hard to do by hand. Instead, people will just turn a simple disk with multiple concentric circles. I do not want to do that, even though it would be easy for me to do that.
Right now, I can only guess that I would need to do this with sculpting tools. But that doesn't seem to offer the type of geometric control that would be needed.
I am hoping someone can tell me IF Aspire can program this rising spiral/volute, and then maybe giving a general indication of how it is done. Knowing it can be done, and having something to point me in the right direction will be very helpful.
Thanks, Chuck
