View Full Version : flexible vacuum hose?

I am thinking ahead - possibly adding a vacuum hold down to my buddy.

Since the table moves, I am assuming a flexible hose would need to be used since the blower/vac would have to stay on the ground.

Is there some sort of larger diam hose that is commonly used? I do vacuum bagged veneering and the pump hooks to my bag with a 3/4" diam braided steel reinforced clear hose... is there something similar in a larger diam suitable for use with say a 10HP regen blower (or similar)?

Thanks,
Andrew

I have been using the 4 inch dryer hose that I got from Home depot. It was supposed to be temporary but I have had it for over 2 years now. It is the aluminum stuff so I don't need to run a separate ground wire.

When i picked up my prt last summer, it came with some "flexible" vacuum hose 3" if i remember correctly. Unfortunately it wasn't flexible enough to use with a buddy's travel and more for easy setup of a static bed machine. I believe most use standard ribbed shopvac hose but that wouldn't work for that type of vac system. Also take a look at some of the heavier hoses at a good plumbing supplier. Tell them what you're trying to do. Another thing to look at is vacuum hose used for milking equipment on dairy farms. Try and find something that works for what you're trying to do.

I guess maybe I am thinking the vacuum force will be more than what it really is.. i assumed a normal rubber/plastic hose would collapse. But maybe not!

Anyone with a buddy, with a vacuum table care to share what they are using?

Whoa horsey....Vacuum hose for the purposes of material hold down is VASTLY different than dust collection or dryer hose for the purposes of dust collection. Your assumptions are correct - dryer hose will collapse under vacuum greater than 3" Hg.

This thread (http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5365&highlight=buddy+vacuum+brady) has what you want. Use a 3x1" AL tube with 'P-trap' and 2" rubber coupling to your vacuum source. I used the Fein hose.

My mistake I was thinking dust collection.
