a strange question but I have two of the 220v amtek motors that run at about 95dbs. I replaced one fein motor with a amtek and it was only slighter louder then the fein before the motor change. The fein motor cost 170.00 verses 120 for the 220 model. So I am starting to think the motor it's self is quieter over just the foam insulation that is in the fein.
Since I can't afford a bigger vac setup yet I would like a quiet one. after my last two new feins going out (melting) I don't want to use them there if possible. 240 would get me two fwein replacement motors and if they are quieter I would pay more for them to keep noise down when I don't need as much vac.

Make your own box and put it outside...or in a mechanical room. It is definitely worth the price compared to the Feins...especially if you fried a couple already. If you can't put them outside, then you'll have to live with the noise...or put on WorkTunes or something. Everything has a price...in this case it is sound & longevity for low cost.

if the motors are nto as loud I don't mind spending a bit more. I wish I tested the motor I replaced before I installed it. I have a box now but I would insulate it for noise I think to help out. I have the noisy 220v motors so it would be nice to have something a bit more quiet. that way when customers visit I can still talk to them with the machine cutting.
