A friend of mine wanted me to cut out a GT40 for the "outlaw class" of his son's pinewood derby. Historically, I've only cut sheet goods on my bot, so this was my first time doing any 3d machining. Also, I didn't have any of the correct endmills for the finishing pass, so we used a 60 degree V carve bit for the final pass and sanded down the marks with a dremel. Also, I found a model of the car on sketchup and then modified the wheel tubs to fit the pinewood derby wheels.

Sweet! The Gulf paint scheme on the original GT40 was super sharp! That's probably my all time favorite car...although I wouldn't mind a new GT with a 6-speed :D

Sure looks a heck of a lot better than a standard PWD car, that's for sure!

looks better than the PWD car I made with a coping saw and X-acto knife way back in the day. I need to see if I can find it.

I am sure it was one of the more impressive cars in the race. Sounds like it must have been a fun project
