I've loved his site for years and have actually built a couple of his goodies. After watching this vid I am even more in admiration of his work. What a very neat attitude, bettcha he will never have an ulcer! :) Russ

He also makes a very good piece of software that enables you to make gears - I used it on one of my models and will be doing so much more in the future.

Imagine what he could do if he had a shopbot!

He could easily make his own CNC router!

Might be fun to do a group project based on one of the marble machines. Everyone buy a copy of the plans for machine 2.1 or 3, then each take a part and design the part and jigs necessary to create it by cnc.

Many things could/should be done differently or simplified for cnc manufacturing. One thing that comes to mind would be using Rocklers plunge marble slot cutter (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=5913&filter=11708&pn=11708) to cut marble paths where the marble is trapped inside the raceway or curly vertical paths for the marble to follow. Could be fun coming up with new pieces for the Modular marble machine #3.

Would probably have to come up with a few simple rules to make a group project work, like: Preferred bits to use, software format to provide files in, connection spacing, and likely proof of plans purchase from Matthias before someone can get the files.

Would anyone be interested?

really fun stuff!! One of these days I hope to have the extra time to just make fun toys. Would like to make a marble machine for sure.

Ken I think your average core box bit would do the same thing as the bit you linked.
If you wanted to move some marbles horizontally you could make something like this (those with indexers)

C'mon guys, scale it up, build one that uses a bunch base balls or the like. Now that would be interesting.
