I have been trying to figure out how to create a V carve of my logo I was able to create a file from the logo but I am not sure what to do to make a workable toolpath. Here is what I have I will include a picture of the logo in PDF & a Aspire one line of the logo. How do I turn this into a vcarve file?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

It will not let me load the DXF of the logo because it is too big.

Trace out the dark blue portions. Make sure they are closed vectors. Then apply a v-carving toolpath. Not everything looks good v-carved. And...auto-trace isn't the best tool depending on the job.

Since you already have this as a DXF, just parse out everything but the sections that are dark blue.

How about this? 3 bits needed: 60, 90, & 30

The PDF contains all the vectors you need. Just import it into Aspire.

If you are going to make it large enough, I would suggest using 2D toolpaths, such as profiles and pockets to create a sign that is 3D in appearance.

Here is a sample to look at. The larger you want to make it, the better to apply this approach because you can use larger diameter bits. If you want it small, then v-carving would be your best approach.

I feel the raised design will be easier to paint also, but that is my opinion.

Wow thanks guys I have never Vcarved anything before I only have one Vcarve bit that came with my starter kit. I guess I over simplified the process. I really liked the way those came out I was hoping to make one for my booth at an upcoming show but I may have bit off too much with making some other parts for my booth.

I have been saving a old solid oak table top for making a large sign for the shows I do that will be later.

Will plywood do OK making something like this or do I need to use a solid hardwood? I was thinking of trying to Vcarve it into some birch plywood that I am making some displays from.

I machine plastic all the time on my Shopbot and I don't do much wood working so excuse my rookie questions please.

Joe that is exactly what I had in mind. I like the others too.

Thanks Mike

If you are going to relief carve something you really can't use plywood because of the layers and voids but you can vcarve pretty good. If i were you i'd go for some type of design like i laid out to mimic a boat hull. The design and cutting would be very simple and at least to me, be more dramatic then flat hanging signs.:D

You can use plywood The layers may create some confusion or a great effect you wont know till you cut it. Thinner layers usually look OK. The cut files I included make a .25 " cuts so you could use a solid 3/8 to half inch plank. Use the outline enlarged to make a badge type deal ...

I would recommend getting a 90, you have a 60 from the starter and a 30. I used the 30 for the smaller letters.

I made this is aspire. I couldn't get the results I wanted with the vectors from the pdf so I screen shot the image and traced the white and dark blue colors. I thought about making a 3d image using the colors as a depth but you said VCarve so there it is. :)
