That is one of my biggest problems is file organization. I have tons and tons of folders and files and when I make something i might put it in a folder then forget where i put it. I might forget the name or filetype. Then I have to do a manual search opening folder after folder and way into subfolders to find something.

The problem i have is without a way to know that i have already searched that particular folder sometimes i go back and click on folders i've already searched. I wondered if you happen to know of any type of windows explorer app that somehow greyed out folders you have already opened within a certain search session?
I'm not looking for a name or filetype search type app because I may not remember the name of what i'm looking for but something where you open up a "search session" and then as you do a manual search from folder to folder the folders and subfolders that you click on are then greyed out or otherwise marked to show that you have already been there in that folder.

I know, i know, don't remind me i need better file organization:rolleyes: I know that, this is part of that effort. I was going to add another HD and wanted to try to organize all this stuff rather then just copying it all over to another drive and have the same issues. So if you must admonish me:o go ahead!
Thanks:p

Maybe access the drive in your web browser (enter c:\ in the address bar) and search the folder from there? That way the folders you've been into will be marked in a different colour.

Otherwise you could try one of these and see if they have that feature - http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-5-best-windows-explorer-replacements/

Jack what you need is a small app called copernic (http://www.copernic.com/en/products/desktop-search/index.html). Take the free home version. Then you can have it act as your personal librarian. I have literaly GIGS or software source on my machine and I can find what I want in seconds.

The other built in goodie is that you can have it search file contents as well. So if in your cutfile you were to add details such as customer name or whatever you could find that file using that info rather than trying to remember the filename.

If you decide to go that route let me know and I will gladly get you set up to have it include SB files.

Joe,

That looks like a great solution. Do you know if we can include things like Aspire files, Sketchup files, etc? That would REALLY make like much easier.

Thanks for sharing that link with us. I am going to download it and play with it.

I'll try this, thanks for the link but I don't think this is what i need. I think what i need is not so much a "search" app but a windows explorer folder app that, once i click on a folder greys out or otherwise lets me know i have already searched that folder in a manual search.
The issue is, i have tons of stuff scattered all around and when i think of that design (because i see it in my head) but can't find it in a folder so i have to do a manual search till i located it.
