I posted my success with quieting my vacuum motors so I wanted to quiet my 220v motors. They are a bit different since they have the single discharge port and the yard triple bypass motors. the cooling air exits around the motor not out of the main exhaust port like in my last motors. I built the box the same way as the last one but I used all plywood. I left around the exhaust ports open. in the last setup the only noise reduction was from muffling the tops of the motors the noisy cooling fans.
but with these I only get a few dbs reduction with the same design. I took the top off my first box and it was a bit better but not a lot. I am thinking most of the noise is from moving air. I have a muffler on order that should help. I know when I block the air intake I get almost 10 dbs noise reduction. with my other setup it is just the opposite.
Not sure if trying to make the main box sound proofed would work. like putting baffles and foam in it. but this box is too small to do much.

Thats good to know since my motors are the same design. I am interested in how the muffler works out.

At least its a nice enclosure.

Not sure if I want to build anotehr or not (G) these are for when I need more hold down so they should not get a lot of use.
not sure if the muffler does nto do it what one. Put the main box in it's own box? but if I can get it down ot 85db that would be ok. my smallewr setup is what I will use most of the time like I used the feins.

Most cars on the road today have an air intake silencer on them. It might be worth popping the hood to see how they did it...Plus, there is nothing wrong with trying an automotive type muffler to silence things.

I think I am going to try an inexpensive car muffler. there is an auto parts store next door to my shop.

Why not just put the box outside, or in another room???

I have no room or really outside. my shop is only 1000sf in the basement of an old fruit building. If I put it outside my door then everyone else would suffer with the noise. I got my main setup quiet so thats the main thing.
