I need some advice. I am trying to make things better for my mother. She lives upstairs and i live downstairs. I have done a few things like make some boxes to raise the height of the bedside table (thanks http://boxmaker.rahulbotics.com/) to mattress height to keep her from reaching over and down and falling out of the bed. I have a "baby monitor" to listen for her if she calls me but i need something that operates like a door bell but is remote control that when she pushes a button it would turn power on to say a power strip that i could plug a light or sound device into to wake me if it was needed.

I know some of you have other interests then shopbots and might have an idea of what type of electrical device i might be able to use?

What about a wireless doorbell or what about a remote that we use for dust collectors ?

Gene's got it, remote wireless doorbell, about 20 bucks @ Radio Shack.

Get 2, 1 for downstairs, 1 for the shop. They have a great wireless range.

A word of warning: when you go shopping, the same chime is used in many retail stores. It is a necessary job caring for loved ones, but there are times when you'd rather not hear that chime, especially walking into a store.:)

As for a camera try the Logitech. A little pricey, but installation is very easy, and can be viewed from any computer, as well as an app for phones. Can view from anywhere.

Also have a Cisco, considerably cheaper, but after 3 calls with tech support, it isn't online yet. Still in the box.

Better at home with a caring family member than a care facility!

Best of luck!
