Had an error code the other day on my v7-4X spindle control thing, code: FAn. I ended up having to order direct from Yaskawa. Got the new ($100 dollar fan) in and it worked for a day. Now the same code again. The shopbot still will run but you can't control the spindle speed.

The first fan that screwed up was my fault (fins on the V7-4X were packed with sawdust against the fan), being new to this machine I did not realize a fan was under the damn thing. Anyway, the new one is totally dustless and the connection looks good so it must be something else.

Manual says "locked fan or bad connection" for this error code. Well, brand new fan and connected via the plug so that looks good.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so is there a quick fix.

Please Help,

Stephen

Just a shot in the dark, but I'd try just hooking the fan up to an appropriate power source to make sure it runs. If not, suspect the wiring or control interface.

Hmm - second thought... I'm not at my machine, but I seem to remember a delay before the fan starts, which would indicate a relay activation. You may have a bad relay...

Like I said, a shot in the dark, but may point you in the right direction.

thanks for the reply Ron,

after rechecking the connection again and manually trying to rotate the fan, I noticed a ultra small spec of sawdust wedged between the fan and the housing. Cleared it out and the fan fired back up. The clearance between the fan blades and the housing is really small (maybe a sheet or two of paper if that).

You might want to put a little filter on it so it is easy to clean and keep the trash out of it.
