I thought I would share these in progress pictures of my new showroom
I deceied to get a little more serious
A few weeks ago there was a descusion on low end and making aliving .I know that if your making cabinets with a bot its not a big leap getting a indexing head or doing carvings will the bot is waiting for your next order

This is the only way a small shop can compete with a larger shop
The fan I made with the bot can tie in with an island
McFadens sells the fan for 1200 ther money in those fans

Pretty classy setup. I especially like the 'glass' door from the showroom to the shop. No secrets just skilled craftsmandship, very nice. Russ

I like the finish on the upper cabinets. Much nicer than the stuff the box stores sell.

I think if you stick with the high quality that you produce, regardless of "times" those who have money will still spend it. If you lower your quality and prices to compete with the cheapest guy in town you will not last long.

I really think with this recession and the dumping of cheap stuff in America people are realizing the value of "Made in America". And you can't get much better then what I see...:D

Kevin,
Here is the link:
Although i don't think i even covered my material costs and certainly none of my labor, this was probably the best thing i've made. The payment came in smiles and hugs:D

Hey Kevin. Lookin good. Wish I had space for showroom. VERY nice job on the island and the concrete top...love it. I also like the galss doors showing shop area and it is nice and clean. I believe a clean shop and customers to be able to see working area shows how open you are and can make them feel more comfortable and trusting to people they are doing business with. I personally have a open door policy and tell customers to stop by anytime unannounced to check on their project or to ask questions. After all they are getting a custom item built just for them and they will be excited about it.
Keep up the great work and post more pics. :)

Nice work Kevin!

I also agree - you can do superior work to what you get with a knock-down Home Depot kitchen. They look good from the surface, but are not really well made IMO.

You can't beat a custom job, done by a local person -you can see the process from start to finish and know exactly what you are getting.

I know here, in Ontario, there is still a demand for the smaller, custom woodworker. A lot of demand!

I am working on closing a sale. Lowes was going to sell the Homeowner cabinets that he planned to install himself. The concept of the layout wasn't bad but there were issues such such as a door adjacent to the refrigerator panel that would be impossible to open because they didn't spec a filler. They didn't spec a scribe strip to go in-between the top of the upper cabinets and the soffit, etc...

Apparently the "kitchen specialist" drew up the plan in about 15 minutes , and never asked about details such as whether or not the stove was designed for frameless, or face frame cabinets.

I don't even want to know what the box stores are selling people. This wasn't even the cheaper cabinetry they sell so I was able to offer a superior, custom product, at competitive price.

My insperation for the show room was here http://www.woodweb.com/galleries/project/posts/1968.html

If you have a bot its not hard to take it a notch higher .To go toe to toe with box store is a losing game there will always be someone cheaper then you
