View Full Version : Can't add 3.16mm dogbones

It seems random in the past where I was unable to add dogbones to certain corners within drawings but for some reason, the whole model is affected by this - I just can't add dogbones anywhere using the latest PartWorks.
The part is attached - if you figure-out how to do it, let me know the steps you used.
Any idea what's going on? They need to be 3.16mm. I use a 1/8 straight double-flute bit with 6mm thick plywood.

For some reason the drawing is set up like a curve I hit node edit and clicked on to line then I was able to add the 3.16MM dog bones.

Jon,
If you go into node editing, you'll see that the design is all made of beziers instead of straight lines. You can hover over each line and hit 'L' to change them to lines or you could use the right click menu or you could choose to fit curves to selected vectors and choose straight lines as the method.
That will allow you to make then make fillets/dogbones at the corners.
Cross posted with Mike.

Scott explained it better but that is what I did and it worked. Whenever I have a problem like that I always click on node edit to see what is going on.

Thanks Mike and Scott... is there a way to do this automatically instead of going line by line? So, just select everything in the drawing (select all) and click a button and everything is converted in one shot?
I got it to work but some of my models have hundreds if not thousands of lines... this isn't any fun going one at a time.

I exported them as a DXF and re-imported them as Vectors. All Beziers were lost, only line segments came in...

Hi Eugene,
I am guessing you were talking to me. I buy Seaboard from a local company Cal-Sak Plastic they sell a lot of plastic for sign guys. Seaboard is a type of HDPE plastic but it is UV stabilized and impervious to salt water. A sheet of 1/2" runs about $200. It is very strong and holds screws pretty well but it is very slick so don't try and use it for a surface that will be walked on.

It is a little painful but it is healing. I won't know how well it functions until they pull the pins out in a few more weeks. Thanks for asking.

there is a button called (can't think of the name of it) that converts straight lines to arcs but it will also make arcs into straight lines I think. I think it is in the newest software. You just select the parts and it will replace them with what you want.

It's the "Fit Curves to Vectors" button. The attachments show where it is.

Wow Steve and Adrian, that worked amazing... DXF causes issues at my end between different programs so I place my parts and edit them in Adobe Illustrator then import that into PartWorks... this little automatic straight line converter is gold!

The solution was always there, it never even occurred to me Jack that this was what that little icon did... pretty useful in my case! I've also updated my site so it's easier to find CNC projects too - looking forward to sharing this knowledge in my videos!
