interesting cnc technique. You can see how you could use other programs to get to the same result:

I've never previously gotten into Rhino but at the Ft. Lauderdale camp we had a great presentation on it and it is definitely tailor made for this kind of work. I can see this as some very wild and valuable table tops from trunk slabs.

Dave,
I guess there is no way to fake this but what came to my mind was, you know the way "quilted maple" might look like a wavy silk quilt laying flat might look?
Well i just wondered if you couldn't mill a slight wave in the wood to try to emulate that? (maybe not...)

Develop this idea a little more and you can make panels like this: http://interlam-design.com/

I figured it out in ArtCAM about 5 years ago in one night with plenty of coffee :D

you can do a lot of this with bitmaps imported into aspire. I did tire treads and waves and ripples and all kinds of things.

Thats kind of what i was thinking Brady, only not on such a grand scale!
I was thinking more like jewelry box size...

I was thinking about how to kind of trick the eye ala: quilted maple but i guess there is no way to better the job of MOTHER NATURE:D

btw...does anyone know why we don't call it Father Nature?

Is the reason there is no sawdust is because they were simulating water? :) Russ

Like Brady said develop the idea more and you can do all kinds of things. Here are some panels I did for a customer. They were done using 2D toolpaths. No 3D involved. http://www.signtalkforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=102
