GoDaddy supports hosting. My website is hosted on my Sons server but all my email is done through GoDaddy. Pretty reasonable pricing.

Hey. I use www.ibuilt.net (http://www.ibuilt.net) for my internet. It uses templates to build your own or you could pay them to build one. I like the fact that I can edit or adjust pages or info with out paying someone to put it online. They are American company based out of Texas. Even when the hurricanes and storms were hitting that area few years back they had large diesel generators on standby if they were to loose power to keep sites up and running. Check them out. You can create you site free for 10 days and then decide if it is for you. If you go with them please mention me as they give free month hosting if a referral signs on.

If you hire a developer they will likely customize a template and setup a content management system so you can add, and edit your own content. They would also set you up with a remote host. If you want to take it a step further they can create and add custom HTML, apps.
If you want a site built from the ground up expect to pay quite a bit.
If you pay a developer make sure they really are customizing the product they sell you. It is very easy to end up paying a couple of grand for them to setup a template with your content and logo. You can do this yourself very easily, with one of the template based hosting companies.
A graphic designer with some web experience can often setup one of the blog sites such as Wordpress or Blogger, to look like a real web page, and not a blog if they know what they are doing. You probably can as well if you have the time to figure it out. You would be surprised how many web sites are built in Wordpress for example.
I get long winded sales pitches from web dev's all the time. Their resume and list of degrees is always impressive and then you look at their portfolio and their best work looks like it is 5-10 years old. There probably hundreds of thousands of companies and freelance developers that fit this bill. Finding somebody that is creative who can built a quality site is tough.
If you want to build your own page, go with a template based hosted site. You can register your own domain name, and you don't have to code anything. If you get a book, and try to code your own site in HTML, it will look like something from 1995.
http://www.squarespace.com/ is the best I have tried, but it is pricy and for that reason I don't use it at this time.
I have a site (for the sign part of my business) built with Weebly Pro (odd name?). The pros are that it is easy to use, has decent SEO features, and inexpensive at $49.00 per year. However you get what you pay for and my impression is that it is mediocre, and I do plan to upgrade. I use it because I had bought a subscription.
My other page is setup through a free blog site.
There are numerous of rebranded spin offs of the template site builder from Intuit.
I took a look at the one offered by GoDaddy and I wasn't impressed enough to look into it further. I took a close look at Jimdo, and Yola. Neither one really stood out to me
If you have access to a Mac, take a look at Rapidweaver, and Sandvox. Both are standalone applications which you can use to build a template based site, that you can host wherever you choose.
As far as SEO (search engine optimization) is concerned people will try to sell you all sorts of stuff. What you need is compatibility with http://www.google.com/analytics/product.html and lots of original text. A common mistake is to create a jpg in photoshop, with all your graphics and text, which will look nice and custom, but the search engine crawlers, can't read and index any of it.
Google is continuously revising their search algorithms to penalize anything that reads as spam. Good, original text, that is relevant, and updated frequently will go along way. People want quality content in their search results. Not pages which have been artificially boosted. They are getting better at favoring good content, over spammy keyword ridden !@$!@$.
You can likely do a better job providing quality site content, than a so called SEO expert. A qualified developer that is up to date on current standards will advise you on this subject and explain what you should do , and they probably won't charge you to do so.
Links to your site from high traffic pages, with appropriate content are also valuable. Get real people (not spammers) to link to your site. Facebook business pages also tend to do really well in google rankings without any work.

I've used godaddy.com myself along with some others that shall remain nameless. I can do my own html but either use a program and edit what i need just like i would with a cnc program. :D . I taught myself way back when i was 23 out of work for 13 weeks after back surgery. This day and age you're just better off using a good template system.

If you just want hosting services, you might try Prxy Internet (prxy.com.) Their pricing is pretty good.
