Well, after working with ther Buddy for a few weeks sitting in front of my wide belt sander - it will finally be moving to its new place in the shop.

I had a new room constructed - 8' wide by 23 feet long - with a 5' door opening into my shop. The same depth as the pocket for my dust collector - and all the way back to the outer wall. (On the opposite side of this wall is my non-heated side of the shop.)

The door is located where the Laguna band saw is sitting in this photo:

THe plastering was just done today, and this weekend I can paint the room. Monday the electrician is supposed to come and install the lights, and a few receptacles. The power for the machine (240V & 120V) is already run. Once my Buddy is in place, I just have to redo the duct work from my collector and I'll be ready to get back to making stuff!

I am also anticipating the noise level (not that it is bad) will also be reduced, as it is not in the main shop. I intend to run the CNC while I am working on other things, so even a little less noisy will be an improvement.

Pics to follow early next week.

Wow...really nice, Andrew! I am currently moving into a larger shop (from 1000 sqft to 3100 sqft), so can share your excitement. :)

My main shop is just over 3000 sq feet. Thats a great size for a small custom shop full of tools and tables, etc. I am lucky I have a 6000 sq foot main building (metal clad, steel building) but our winters here are brutal, and I doint want to heat more than I need since it costs quite a bit to run the furnace.

But, to add another room was OK. I have plenty of room on the storage side yet.

I also like the idea of having the CNC in a separate room (but still open to the main shop).

You are going to love going from 1000 to 3000 feet!! :)

I went from 600 sq ft to my new building of 2400, I love it, any space can become too small so I am mindful of what goes in.

I have 1200 SQ Ft and I have outgrown it, I have been searching for a new facility. My current property is behind my house in a residential neighborhood. I would like to keep my shop at my house and we are looking outside town for a couple acres.

If you are doing larger jobs (like kitchens, or even larger cabinet jobs, or things like complete dining sets, etc) it is not hard to use a lot of room just for working space!

Right now I am working on a huge wall unit - almost 20 feet long, and some cabinets close to 8' tall.. that uses a lot of real estate!

Well, I worked all day today from 7am to 5 pm getting my new Buddy table made up, installed and the machine reconnected (to the dust collection).

It feels GREAT to get the machine up and running again. All I need now is to make a small mobile cart to hold my computer, as the side mounted try I had doesnt fit anymore. Where the machine now sits, I can just squeeze by to access the rear if I need to. Good thing I am fairly skinny!

Here are some pics...

The new table... it is 5 foot by 5 foot 3/4" MDF, doubled up. Glued and screwed. With my T tracks in it. Very flat and it should stay that way.

Also, after leveling the Buddy rollers perfectly to the top of the aluminum power stick (before I put the mdf top on), I made up the roller system that will hold the top down to the table rollers.

I made up an aluminum L track with casters, which press down on a 1/4" aluminum strip screwed to the MDF. Pretty self explanatory in the pics..

Tomorrow the electrician is installing my lighting, receptacles and that will be the end! The Buddy will be ready to go any time without being in my way!
