I just put a 3hp colombo spindle on my shopbt. it is driven by a Commander SE VFD.

I have the VFD parameter List, and i have the info Tag on the spindle.

One of my questions is about what others have set their parameters to.

(1) Minimum speed in Hz, mines set a 75 Hz
(2) Max speed in Hz, mines set at 400 Hz

(3) What is the power factor? I don't see that on the tag. mines set at .91

(4)My VFD has a parameter for rated speed(rpm), however the parameter does not hold a big enough value. The manual for the VFD says if this case occurs, use 0 for the parameter.

How does one dertermine the rpm of the spindle?

Can the VFD run the spindle to fast and damage it?

Don't know about that specific VFD in regards to display options. I believe the lower RPM limit on the newer spindles are programmed with 5000 as the lowest RPM. Your Colombo is a 400Hz spindle and you have a matching 400Hz VFD. This is good. There is no danger of over revving it. An HSD, which is a 300Hz spindle, could over rev if put on a 400Hz VFD without max RPM limit set.

Each Hz is 60 RPM. 300Hz = 18,000 RPM & 400Hz = 24,000 RPM

Hope that helps...
