It's probably OK for rouging out something or very large objects, but the polygon count just isn't there for anything really productive. Look at the untextured polygon view on some of the models to illustrate what I am talking about.

Very similar to 123D Catch from Autodesk. I have used that for roughing out carvings prior to hand work. Still, a pretty sweet concept.

its just not "there" yet but soon! I'm waiting for them to perfect an app for the Kinect

Ask the Vectric guys about kinect.

I didn't get details, but they were cutting 3D portraits captured on the kinect at last year's maker's faire.

I followed that i think in Vectric Labs? I don't think it is going anywhere anytime soon because i haven't seen any mention of it for some time but who knows. I do think that someone will come up with an app to use with the kinect soon.
