What is the difference between aspire , cut 2d, cut 3d and v carve ?
If you have aspire doesn't it do what the rest do? do you need the rest?

the vectric site has a good comparison of each one and what they do. Aspire does everything according to the comparison. I like aspire seems very user friendly. The online tutorials make learning it pretty easy.

Cut 2D - 2 Dimensional milling, basically pockets, profiles and milling per vectors.

V Carve Pro - 2 Dimensional milling, advanced textures and woodworking options and of course V carving.

Cut 3D - 3 Dimensional milling, multi-sided 3D milling and slice modeling. Doesn't create 3d files. Just mills them.

You only need Aspire. It directly contains all the tools and features of Cut2D and V-Carve Pro.

Cut3D does automate the process of 2 and 4 sided machining, but it is nothing that couldn't be setup manually in Aspire if one understands the concept. Beyond this, Aspire has much more powerful 3D toolpath control when compared to Cut3D.

You don't need a lathe to taks advantage of the features in Aspire. I only use some of them myself but I think it is worth it when you start doing 3d work.
