Greetings, All

A client just dropped off some 2"x12"x10'6" reclaimed Poplar beams. A few nails are visible and I would hate to destroy a machine or tooling should I miss any. I would like to go over these beams with a metal detector to be sure that I get all of the nails. I am looking at the Lumber Wizard 4.0 ($160) which costs a little more than I want to spend, and the Little Wizard II ($20). Would anyone recommend one metal detector over another?

Kind regards,

JIM

Jim,
The Little Wizard II works well. For an occasional use item, I feel any more money spent is likely unnecessary. When you fire it up, it's wailing. Dial down just enough to stop the alarm. Has an additional fine tune - just test a bit when you first get it - mine will pick up screw presence within 3/4-1" away. I trust it in wood up to 2" thickness, being sure to fully scan both sides.
