I've just posted some pix from last weekend's Fab Lab gathering out in Tulsa,OK on the Camp blog page.

It was very good! We had a around 25 to 30 people on Thursday and Friday for the Shopbot training and Shopbot camp. As is typical in a Shopbot camp there was much exchange of information and meeting other forum contributors in person.

We had a lot of support from the factory for the FabLab symposium earlier in the week, including a demo of the desktop Shopbot with the 3D printing head. It worked! They also showed an steered knife (instead of a drag knife) attachment for cutting paper, cloth, etc.

The desktop had an indexer, so it had 5 active axes in an interesting combination of 4 axis with indexer, or 4 axes with steered knife. It was not set up as a 5 axis CNC for 3D cutting.

Several simple vacuum arrangements were shown for the desktop unit, I didn't get any pictures tho. Perhaps someone else did.

The 3D printer was in use most of the time so the indexer and vacuum fixtures did not get shown much.

I took some pictures of the desktop with the 3D printer head and steered knife, which I will get posted sometime tomorrow when time permits.

I'm looking forward to seeing these new desktop features released on the Shopbot web site.

Here is the Desktop that was being shown, it has three heads on the Z car, and an indexer in the background!

Here is a close up, the 3D printhead is on the right, note the blue thread of ABS material being fed to the printhead on the right. On the left of the spindle is the steerable knife motor driven by one of the Shopbot control axes. I didn't get any photos of knife cutting attachments.

And a desk cut on the 48x96 alpha Shopbot at FabLabTulsa. Note it has a cut henge and lays flat for storage. Very portable!

Note: a couple of these shots were taken prior to the start of camp at the Fablab symposium. The desk had been removed by the time the camp started, so it didn't get shown off. It is a great design, so I included the shot. Sorry for any confusion..
