Machine:
Windows 7 64-bit home edition
Shopbot 6.44
All software and services configured exactly like they were at end of last session (no computer configuration changes, no auto updates, no internet access)
Last week (Thursday) I cut 12 pieces of plywood into cabinet parts with 0 problem. After cutting was done, I parked spindle at end of table like I always do, turned machine off and it has been sitting since then.
This morning I empty the dedicated dust collector, put a new garbage bag on it, put it back in to place with all hoses and grounding hookups (exact hookup as it always is). Go to start cutting a SBLink file and I can't get more then 2 or 3 cuts into the file and the machine gets a comm error. Even with the bit embedded into the wood the machine acts like it hit proximity switches and comes to a dead stop (no ramp down) and just sits there (bit spinning in the wood). I then get that dreaded yellow dialog saying it just puked with the Quit and shut down option. Do that and the spindle keeps running with the bit buried in the wood. Start Control back up and spindle gets shut down.
It stops in a different spot each time. No pattern to anything.
Trouble shooting steps so far:
1. Shut down control software, restart it, re-zero X,Y,Z and try again (stops dead after a couple of cuts). I've tried this 4 times with same results of comm error part way into file
2. Shut down control software, turn Shopbot off, turn computer off. Unplug all USB cables between Shopbot, spindle and computer. Restart everything, re-zero X,Y,Z (tried this a couple of times). Same results of dead stop and comm error after a couple of cuts)
3. Shut down control software, turn Shopbot off, turn computer off, unplug ALL power cords from outlets (110vac and 220vac), unplug all USB cables between Shopbot and computer. Wait 10 minutes, plug everything back in, turn on computer, turn on Shopbot. Load up Shopbot control, re-zero X,Y,Z and try cutting again and get the same full stop and the dreaded yellow dialog box after a couple of cuts.
I've checked all my cables and everything is firmly connected. All cabling is off the floor so there hasn't been any walking on cables. The only thing that changed between last week and this was to empty the dust collector bag (Harbor Freight DC). I tried running the machine with no dust collection running or even hooked up. Same lost comm problems.
Anyone got any ideas what might be wrong? Could this be hardware going bad?
