right now I am using 2009 quickbooks simple start. it is more then I really need. but of course I get the notice if I don't upgrade to the newest version I can't email invoices.
It would be nice to have a version that works with mac and pc. I can get a 2010 version for 70.00 or new for about 125.00
but I would not mind changing software all together.

why don't you go take a look at Open Office, it is FREE and has a suite of programs to replace excel, and other office pgms.

not sure if it has a quickbooks equivilent, but go read maybe it does.

Whatever you do... don't use Peachtree! Bad experience.

SG

PS my wife is happy with QuickBooks and it works well with the tax software we use.

There is an open source accounting program, but it looks and feels like some overly complicated software program that was made in 1996.

I am using quickbooks 2012 for mac. It works fine, but for some reason the program it uses to create custom invoice and other templates is bugged.

I just get tired of the quickbooks upgrade messages all of the time and now I have to upgrade or else.
all I need are invoices and inputting my supplies and expenses. I don't have an inventory and not enough deductions. Most of my involves are charges by the minute since I seldom do the same thing twice.
Kbilling looks good and free to try.

You don't have to upgrade quickbooks. The program will continue to function just the way it has been all along. The company just won't support it anymore. So if what you have is working for you and there are no problems just keep using it. I've been using hick books for about 15 years. Some years I Upgrade some years I don't. It all depends on where I'm at with the business.

To email invoices from older quickbooks, get Bullzip pdf printer. Just print invoice to pdf and attach to an email. I'm running 2009 also.

I'm using QB2006 and there's an option in the file menu, when you have an invoice open, that allows me to save as PDF. I don't get any upgrade messages, but I do have to run the program in XPmode (a virtual machine) in Windows 7.

I've been getting these annoying notices, too. I have QB2009. As far as I can tell, the only thing I can'r do is the online banking. Not a big deal for me, since I can still import my transactions manually...

Hmm - I'll have to check that out. My notice only says that online banking will be discontinued as of May 31, nothing about e-mail invoices.

I only do email so that's what I get. myself I wish the emails would just go through your email software it would be faster and cleaner.

Print to a PDF and email the PDF from your mail software.

I use Quickbooks and have updated to 2012. I use the pro version. Can't see why older version would stop emailing function. I do pdf invoices and email as I use a open source online email vs on my desktop email (outlook).
A option for just invoicing or even some accounting is here. http://www.nchsoftware.com/invoice/
Free trial. I would have bought but accountant like QB.

Cheers,

it's only a way to force you to upgrade.

Thank goodness ShopBot is not like many other versions of software... Could you imagine if the Shopbot software would suddenly end the movement of the Z axis after a certain period of time ???

and little $$$$ signs would then show up on the screen ?

I've been using OpenOffice for some years now, and it is designed to replace Microsoft's OFFICE suite of programs which
to the best of my knowledge ..does not include accounting software.

well So much for quickbooks. I bought the quickbooks simplestart online version (the only version they have) for 13.00 off ebay that gives you a year of online service. I figure now I can look up stuff from home or my phone. But one you can't import your info unless you upgrade. Also I said will not a huge deal but also you can't record expenses. Thats all I use quickbooks for invoicing and recording my expenses.
so Now the new version has less features then the old version does.

I use My Invoices and Estimates Mine is a real old version but it works foe me. I see the newer versions can email invoices and it is only $39.00
