I've now begun work on my latest volume, originally it was going to be 100% focused on CNC routers only but I've since reconsidered and it will be a mix of laser cutter, CNC table router and 3D printers (pending). The CNC table router section will be the most extensive though. This is the first time I've done this so let's see how it goes.
These books get sold around the world and unlike my last three volumes, this one will be much more than just "plans" - I want to make it an educational resource. Handing royalties, rights etc is incredibly messy so to avoid that, here's what I'll give to you in return instead of cash to compensate you for your time and releasing the rights of your work to me and my company:
1) half page ad at the end of the book (promote your business) - worth 500$
2) You can talk about yourself and your experience/business/website in the intro
3) I'll send you 5 copies of the finished book once published
NOTE:
* You MUST own the rights to any photography, designs, text and images shown for your column. (Take your own pictures, write/design your own stuff!)
* I will be translating this book (and previous ones) into several languages, first of which is Chinese so use common English
* AVOID measurements if at all possible
The audience for these books ranges from casual reader to Russian engineers so you can be as technical as you wish as long as I (no formal engineering/design training) understand what's going on. If you want to write something about how to create 3D dovetails using a ShopBot and which ones are the strongest or the math behind perfect wooden gear creation, that's cool. Building your own robot or how to cut a pizza using a laser cutter, not cool.
I'll be contributing the plans/projects in the book, so I'm not looking for those.
TIMELINE
Hoping to have the first draft of the book done by August, second draft by September and published by end of October. The book will be made available on Amazon stores around the world and digitally on my websites (WoodMarvels.com, 3DMarvels.com... ) and others in the future.
If you think you have something to contribute (rough format in the attached file), send me an e-mail of your ideas to cantinjon@gmail.com. Any questions, stick them in this forum. Feel free to forward this to others who you think have knowledge to contribute as well.
Thanks!
Jon
ps: WoodMarvels.com is undergoing upgrades - will be back to 100% I hope this week!
ps2: There will be lots of ShopBot pictures in this book!
