I have been tasked with cutting a badge indention and mounting holes in aluminum heat sinks for a friend. I will post a few pics of what I have so far.
I am running a PRT 120 with a V4 control box. PartWorks version "1.102 old"
Any ideas, suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. I just got my bot set back up so I am "very rusty" at running it. But loving it.
Thanks

can you drill from the face? that would save one jig setup. I make jigs as simple as possible and disposable if at all possible so I don't have to go to the hassle of getting them placed right. a pocket that holds it in place and a simple piece of mdf that crosses it and screws or nails on either side is enough.

I wish i could drill from the face but, i just cant run the risk of a fin getting nicked, or worse. It is not the $$$ to replace the heat sink, it is the 3 month lead time it takes to get the next order.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will post up pics of what I come up with.
Thanks also to Chris at Shopbot tools, very knowledgable and helpful with a rookie, "out-o-square" mistake. :D

Look at how i do my tasting spoons. Click on my name then profile.. Albums pop up on right...
How i do it is very simple and disposable. I route out the size of the product )in you case the size of the fin side so that it sits in a pocket... This will allow you to drop the fin side down.. The pocket is screwed down so when i cut pocket. I have the holes lined up with the pocket.. Have a simple piece of wood that is screwed down that rotates to lock the heat sink in place... You can use two on each side or one on each side. Depends on you.

I was wondering. then a pocket for up and a pocket for down with a simple block of wood to hold it in place. a slotted wood block with a thumbscrew and a threaded insert. cheap easy and not too much worries if you hit one. it takes very little to keep the part down all you need is to keep it from lifting up. the pocket keeps it from moving. I gave up on the toggle clamps as they are too easy to hit and too finicky to setup and too tall.

That will work for you.. You could do both up and down at the same time or have two set ups... You could use brass screws if you wanted to.. The wood taps does not need to be slotted just be able to swing over the work sort of like a prop on a airplane but with enough friction to keep it there.

Thanks.
I am drawing pockets for 4 up and 4 down now. This "should" go faster. I also just got 10 more clamps pictured above to hold the amps down. Short drywall screws to hold the clamps down.
Thanks Again for the advice, I guess i just need to "DO IT" and quit second quessing myself.
More pics to follow.
