This just opened up between 3 and 6 pm. came out of the shop and there it was. about 18" across over a foot deep and who knows how far under it goes. I think the heat today softened the asphalt and that was the last straw. of the first hot days we have hand.

Did you lose one of Joe's post holes? or perhaps misplace it?

I think I did. Now lets see how long it takes the city to fix it.

Steve,
You got any coal mines under you?
We get a lot of those in Pa here and big enough to swallow a house or two(no kidding) Could be a n air vent for one.

I lived in west central PA for my first 43 years, we used to have tons of fun with sinkholes when we were kids. When we found a new one, we'd take turns jumping in to see if it was done yet. :)
I don't think I'd test that one.

I am thinking it might have to do with the light rail track they put in about 100 feet from it. it's not where water would seep into it but from further up the slight slope where the tracks are.

I wouldn't stand too close. I was working in an area once and a kid vanished in his back yard. We found a hole that was a very old burn pit from when the subdivision was constructed. Firefighters pulled him bout but before it was over a track loader had to dig it out. It was the size of a house!

here in philly we get sink holes constantly, what alot of people don't realize is the whole city is over top creeks and streams and the "waterfron district" is built on what was basically a swamp
I would plant a tree in it and watch peoples reaction . then v carve a sigh that says its an endangered species

That may be where they buried jimmy hoffy and he is trying to dig him self out. Lol.... You had better probe the edges to see how big around it is under the asphalt...... It could be big enought to allow a truck to fall in.

I hate to ruin a joke that his been running for as long as I can be remember but a few years back the man responsible for Jimmy Hoffa's death confesses to dumping him in an incenerator while on road trip with his wife and another couple. Don't recall the details but the story ran in the phladelphia inquire a few years back

Then chain yourself to it, and be hailed as a champion of political correctness in the media.
Since it will be small you can call it a " Notalotawoodatree":D
