I bought a used shopbot and I am having some issues getting it up and running. I downloaded the recent software from shopbot's website, but when I connect the usb cable I get an error that no active ports were found and when I try to dig deeper I am told that I do not have the driver installed.

I tried to re download the software but have had no luck thus far. I also tried the option of finding my shopbot connection, and again with no luck. I did also check to ensure I had the correct software for my machine (48*48 Alpha Buddy) and I do.

If anyone has any advice on this I would love to hear it!

Thank you in advance for any and all help

I don't have the same set up as you, but sometimes it's just a matter of the sequence of which devices are powered up first.

If you haven't tried it this way already, I would have everything shut off (but with your USB cable connected). First power on your computer.
After your computer completes it's normal routine of powering on, then power on your Shopbot. Then open your Shopbot program on the computer.
If it still doesn't automatically find the connection you should be able to have it look for other active ports.

what vintage and model of SHOPBOT did you purchase and what version of software are you trying to control it with?

I have tried restarting my computer as well as the shopbot, but it is still not recognized. I can see that a shopbot is connected to my computer, but when I click on it for more info I am told there are no drivers for the machine.

My shopbot is a BT48 Alpha from 2008 with a pc router (when bought I checked with shopbot and it is a current machine), I am running the shopbot v3 software.

Thanks again for any suggestions!

Trace the USB cable back inside the control box. Does it go into a converter? (USB to 9-pin serial) or does it plug right into the processor board with a USB-B end?

If it is using a converter, and the serial end is smoky clear in color, then you need to install the IOGear driver.

If the USB plugs right into the on-board processor board, then you need to install the drivers for the v201 card.

You can find both drivers here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot\ShopBot 3\Drivers

IMPORTANT: You MUST unplug the USB from your computer and install the drivers. Then plug the USB back in again.

Thank you for the info Brady. I went to search for the files but they aren't on my computer. I tried to download the software again and then search but nothing came up.

Could this be an issue with the computer I am using, Windows 7 64bit?

Thank you

C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot\ShopBot 3\Drivers

Not C:\Program Files\ShopBot\ShopBot 3\Drivers

I did try the (86) portion before but there was nothing there, then checked again and there was a lot more folders there! It was nice to see it all connected and to have parts move.

Thank you for the help! Now I just need to figure out everything else that goes into this!

Thanks again

OK - Good! The 2nd part may take years...but you'll have fun doing it!
